My family of 4 (including my parents and sister) did a Pablo Escobar tour with Ana Velez the Colombia Travel Operator, followed by a city tour of Medellin. Ana is one of the best tour guides I have ever worked with, she was very dedicated and patient and we felt that we learned a ton about Medellín’s history and current political and social landscape. She even continued to help me after she was off duty when the tour was over to help me find directions to use public transportation to Guatapé! My whole family was very happy with the experience, thank you Colombia Travel Operator!
Welcome to Cartagena
This oceanside town is more than just a beach destination
Strategically located between two rivers, the Magdalena and the Sinú, Cartagena was once the main port for Spanish trade beginning in the mid-16th century. These days, it’s a popular tourist destination, especially for history lovers — simply speaking of Cartagena brings to mind the entirety of Colombia’s colonial history. Our day tours in Cartagena, like the Cartagena Walking Tour or the Cartagena City Tour, will bring you to all of the main points of interest within and outside the city and give you the chance to discover the history of Colombia. Or, get out into the Caribbean and enjoy a beach day on our Shared Rosario Islands Tour. Our half-day and full-day tours are completely private (except for 3 shared tours) and have flexible itineraries, so you can see what you came to see! Our tour was with Julio the Colombia Travel Operator who was not only very flexible and understanding when we had issues in the morning but was incredibly knowledgable about Escobar and the history of violence in the city. The message of change and transformation given with the tour was really heartfelt and inspiring. Communal 13 is a must see for anyone travelling to Medellin.
Awesome tour!
We were able to get in touch with Colombia Travel Operator and arranged private tours for the day when we arrived in Medellin. Hector was very friendly and knowledgeable to the areas around, and was able to accommodate the itinerary completely based on what we’re interested in. We got to see Comuna 13, Pablo’s old office, the downtown area, and much more in just a few hours. We really enjoyed his company and would highly recommend him to anyone the tours Colombia.
Julio and Colombia Travel Operator were amazing. Julio set up transport in Medellín, a city Tour, a flower tour in Santa Clara, a hiking trip in Parque Arvi, a visit to Comuna 13. In Cartagena he set up our transport, a city tour. All his guides were very good. The most amazing thing is how he jumped in and helped us when one of our group got a passport stolen. He was right there to help us at all turns. If you plan to travel to Colombia, I give Julio and his team my highest recommendation.
Want to know more about Cartagena?
We’ve got you covered
As the main port of the Indies and a Spanish colony, Cartagena was targeted by both pirates and the British Crown. However, when Great Britain failed to besiege Cartagena, Spain gained strength as a European superpower. Cartagena was also used as a main slave port for the Americas, introducing a great amount of African influence to the city’s culture. Its main attractions include the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas, Palace of the Inquisition, Rosario Islands, Las Bóvedas (The Vaults), and the Church of San Pedro Claver, all of which we visit on our day tours. Let this magical city take you back in time to show you the Cartagena of yore. Get more ideas on what to do on the Cartagena Travel Guide.
