Overview of your tour

Comuna 13 attests to the powerful resilience of Colombia like no other part of the country, and no one tells its story better than its residents. That’s why, along with one of our guides, a local guide will be joining us on this tour. The local guides of Comuna 13 are typically hip hop artists, so they can provide a better background of what hip hop and art mean to the community of this district. Not only will we see a lot of impressive street art and hopefully hear some music, we’ll also have a bit of a history lesson on the progression of Comuna 13.

Once known as the most dangerous part of the most dangerous city in the world, Comuna 13 scared a lot of potential visitors away. This began to change in the early 2000s as the government stepped in to offer support and younger members of the community rose to the challenge of changing everyone’s — including their own — perception of this district. The incorporation of public transportation (including the Metrocable and outdoor escalators) has played a crucial role in the mentality change, and you’ll hear all about it on the tour.
